Abuja Airport Closure: We can’t afford to lose more lives to armed robbers, kidnappers on Kaduna road – Dino Melaye
He spoke while directing questions to the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika who is currently briefing Senators at the floor over planned closure of Abuja Airport.
Melaye also submitted that the deplorable condition of the road makes it inexpedient to relocate to Kaduna airport.
He recalled that Chief Sunday Awoniyi, a late PDP Chieftain from Kogi State as well as James Ocholi, SAN, the late Minister of State for Labour and Productivity lost their lives on the same Kaduna road.
“The pot-holes on the road couldn’t be repaired in six weeks,” Melaye said while urging the Federal Government to find an alternative means of repairing the Abuja Airport.

“Please, Minister of Aviation, save our lives, save our money. Look for alternative,” he begged.
He, however, urged the Minister to make sure the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, were duly consulted as a major stakeholder.
DAILY POST reports that for over one hour, Sirika had been responding to questions from Senators regarding planned shut down of the Abuja Airport.
While explaining the need for renovation, the Minister said, “Abuja runway was constructed in 1982 and has only a lifespan of 14 years. Which means it has extended its usage.”
